CHRISTCHURCH FIRM IMPRESSES SILICON VALLEY

Christchurch man Daniel Fowlie has been successful in his effort to impress a panel of investment and IT gurus in San Francisco.

Daniel, founder and managing director of Trineo, has been selected as a finalist for the Force 40 Innovation Showcase competition, run by US-based software company Salesforce.com.

Two weeks ago Daniel flew to San Francisco for the semi-final round and had just seven minutes to make an impression with his presentation on LegalSoftOnline.com – a new legal practice management system developed by Trineo – to a panel of Salesforce.com staff and leading Silicon Valley venture capital firms.

It was be a fantastic opportunity to highlight the standard of innovation in New Zealand, as well as gain exposure to some very savvy and well connected IT investors,” says Daniel.

The next stage of the competition is an internet vote starting in early November with the winner announced at the Dreamforce 09 Conference.

LegalSoftOnline.com has taken only four months to develop using modules from the Salesforce.com development platform.

I identified, as a result of discussions with people working in legal practices, a real need for a powerful, flexible and secure legal practice management system in New Zealand and other countries. The use of Salesforce.com modules has cut years off the development time and allows for cost-effective customisation to meet a client’s needs.”

The future of software and client systems is via the web, rather than off-the-shelf packages that must be installed and configured on company servers.”

A typical server-based legal practice management system can cost tens of thousands of dollars, with additional IT, deployment and upgrade costs.”

An online system such as Trineo’s, however, does everything a server-based system does, but is more flexible, equally secure, and has no large upfront cost.”

Trineo’s LegalSoftOnline.com system charges a modest monthly fee per user, which takes into account software updates and maintenance, data storage and backup, and security issues.”

LegalSoftOnline.com will start beta testing soon and is looking for any small to medium sized law firms interested in being involved. The final product will be released before the end of the year.
